In 2024, I was honored to be one of the winners of the David Baker Prize for the Bridges Composition Competition. My work, "Mirror, Floating On The Water," premiered alongside pieces by two other talented composers at the Ravinia Festival in Chicago. The unique instrumentation, which included a string quartet as part of a jazz ensemble, inspired the creation of this album. Strings, with their ability to convey sensitivity and intimacy as well as power, play a central role. I infused this concept into each composition and arrangement, including two of my favorite tunes. After releasing my debut jazz orchestra album, "Scenery In My Story," I experienced a period of writer’s block regarding large jazz ensembles. Then, this album emerged from that introspection. I hope you enjoy this new form of self-expression.
